Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and Wife Heather MillsIn an interesting example of the pot calling the kettle black, Lady Heather Mills McCartney, 39, who is embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with ex-Beatle and musical superstar Sir Paul McCartney, 65, castigated the rich on Wednesday. The outburst came during a 90-minute speech before the debating society of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Sir Paul had offered her approximately $50 million to go away, but Lady Heather, who characterized the rich as snobbish and miserly during her rant, has upped the ante to $100 million. During her speech, the hard-done-by Mills claimed she only reluctantly befriended wealthy people to gain prominence for social causes she espouses. CTV quoted her as saying: “Sadly, you have to mix at a certain level of people to raise the level of funds you need to bring about the greater good. . .Because people are very snobby. These people who have lots of money, they’re either snobby or they’re stingy. If you have lots of money, you have to be stingy — because why would you want that amount of money?”

Well, Heather, you tell us why you want all that money.

Lady McCartney also apparently fancies herself as a human rights crusader, victimized as other human rights crusaders have been. In Dublin, she commented: “If you look at every single person in the history of the world who has tried to make a difference, you’ll find a very long section of their lives where they were treated horrifically by the government or by the media.”

Nancy Shevell Blakeman, Paul McCartney's GirlfriendMeanwhile, Australia’s Herald Sun reports that, as a result of Mills’ outbursts in recent U.S. television interviews in which she blamed McCartney for their marital woes and called McCartney’s designer daughter Stella “evil,” Sir Paul has had enough. He has slashed his settlement offer to $7 million.

The prestigious Mischon de Reya law firm, which represented Princess Diana during her divorce and whom Mills had retained, dumped her and she will now represent herself in the upcoming divorce hearing in February 2008.

Sir Paul has been enjoying himself in the Hamptons with the married Nancy Shevell Blakeman, 47, a cousin of Barbara Walters who is rumored to be dating Sir Paul. Nancy Shevell was a friend of McCartney’s first wife, Linda Eastman; the two women fought breast cancer at the same time.

Lady Heather’s next volley will reportedly come in the form of the sale of 10 secret tapes she made while married to McCartney.

Mills, who has compared herself to both Princess Diana and Kate McCann (mother of missing child Madeleine McCann) in the past, married McCartney in 2002, giving birth to daughter Beatrice a year later.

Vegan Heather Mills McCartneySir Paul alleged “unreasonable behavior” by his wife when he filed for divorce. Perhaps an example of “unreasonable” would be Mills’ recent suggestion that we go vegan and drink rat or dog milk, due to the amount of carbon emissions produced by livestock. Mills claims that 80 percent of global warming is caused by a combination of deforestation and livestock emissions. Speaking in Hyde Park while launching a campaign for Viva!, a vegetarian group, she commented: “There are many other kinds of milk available. Why don’t we try drinking rats’ milk and dogs’ milk?”

No, you drink it, Heather.
