Tammy Faye Messner DiesThe morning after her satellite interview with Larry King in which the public saw the shocking change in her appearance from inoperable lung cancer, televangelist and singer Tammy Faye Messner died peacefully at home at 4:00 a.m. CST on Friday morning in the Village of Loch Lloyd, an upscale suburb of Kansas City, Missouri featuring such amenities as a championship golf course and a 110-acre lake.

Tammy Faye, who only moved there a week ago so that husband Roe Messner could be closer to his family, never got to enjoy any of her new surroundings, instead dying peacefully with husband Messner and a close friend in attendance. On Larry King Live, heavily sedated with morphine and appearing to be in pain, she’d expressed a desire to be cremated. Her ashes were interred in a private cemetery in southern Missouri on Saturday, during a family service. (The location was chosen because that’s where Mr. Messner, who suffers from prostate cancer, has chosen to be buried some day.)

Tammy Faye’s son, Jay Bakker, wrote that his mother “had a very peaceful death and is no longer in pain. To grant her wish, she was cremated today and her ashes were buried at a private ceremony. The service was performed by my good friend Randy McCain of Open Door Community Church in Sherwood, AR.”

Talk show host King was asked by the family to make the delayed announcement regarding her death. King later said that Tammy Faye didn’t want a funeral. According to CNN, King said: “She wanted a party…They’re going to schedule a party in two to three weeks in Palm Springs, California. Her friends will be invited. And she wanted it to be a celebration.” You go, girl!

On Larry King, Tammy Faye said that her final wishes for her fans were: “I’d like to say that I genuinely love you, and I genuinely care, and I genuinely want to see you in heaven someday. I want you to find peace. I want you to find joy.” Rest in peace, Tammy Faye.
