Dunce Cap, Antique New Orleans, Lousiana ImageAs the old saying goes, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” And Brent Eric Finley, 38, of Rayville, Louisiana and his wife Stacey, knew it. But all good things must come to an end, and both now face long prison sentences for bilking family and friends out of at least $873,000 in a medical scam.

The couple convinced people that their medical ailments could be solved by satellite imagery. Mr. Finley also somehow managed to convince people that his wife was a CIA agent capable of scheduling scans of patients via satellite imaging. Then, in exchange for payment, the scammers said that if medical problems were found, “secret agents would give them medicines while they slept, in exchange for payment.” Uh-huh. . .and the moon is made of cheese and there are little green Martians up in the sky.

Both pled guilty in August in Monroe, Louisiana to federal wire fraud charges. According to CTV, Mr. Finley was just sentenced to 51 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Mrs. Finley, sentenced in August, got 63 months. When they’re released, they also get to pay $873,000 in restitution. In between prison and restitution, it appears that the Finleys will be quite busy for years to come.
